Northland Shopping Center is the site for a Community Baby Shower, sponsored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, The Children's Center and The March of Dimes on Saturday, June 30, 2007, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The event will collect new baby clothing to support the Zeta Phi Beta Stork's Nest, a national prenatal incentive program, offered locally through The Children's Center Teenaged Parenting Program. In addition, The March of Dimes and The Michigan State Extension Program will provide prenatal and other well baby educational materials.
"Our community needs to rally around these young people having babies by providing them with the support they need to ensure their babies are healthy. This Community Baby Shower is a perfect way for the community to show they care," says Angela Hardison, President, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Rho Zeta Chapter and The Children's Center Board Member.
The community is asked to bring new, unwrapped baby items, such as: diapers, layette sets, body suits, baby blankets, sleepers, bibs, as well as preemie, newborn and toddler clothing to Performance Court in Northland Mall. Several stores that stock baby items, such as Target, Macy's, and Rainbow Kids are located in the mall.
"We are pleased to support the Community Baby Shower because to us Northland means much more to the community than just being a shopping center," says Roslyn Atwood, Marketing Director, Northland Center Mall.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and March of Dimes have a relationship that spans over 25 years, together sponsoring Stork's Nests across the county. The purpose of the Stork's Nest is to provide incentives for teenagers and young adults to seek consistent parental care to deliver healthy babies. Through a new partnership with The Children's Center in Detroit, one of the state's largest child guidance organizations, local teenaged parents also receive comprehensive support and therapy, when appropriate.
