The UB Rho Alpha Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will host the "Cents of Style" a charity fashion show to benefit "Stamford Education 4 Autism" on Wednesday, November 14 at the John J. Cox Student Center, Social Room at 8:00 pm. The fashion show will showcase up-and-coming designers from Connecticut.
Local designers Yejide Harris, Lajuanda Moody, Lisa-Ann Brackenridge, and Savoy Smith will showcase their fashion lines, along with performances by Poet Pennie Parker, a musical ensemble including members of Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity, and dance performances by F.L.O.H. and T2D.
The cover charge is $5.00 and all proceeds will be donated to Stamford Education 4 Autism to support their efforts in providing educational opportunities, supportive services, emotional support and guidance for families with autism.
The members of the Rho Alpha chapter have been assisting with fundraising efforts by selling Autism Awareness merchandise to the University of Bridgeport students, friends and faculty. "Our organization's motto is 'Greater Service, Greater Progress' and we strive to make a significant change in our community through our service projects," said Rho Alpha chapter president Taira Jean-Bart.
Stamford Education 4 Autism was started by a group of parents who have children with autism in January 2007. Together they have organized activities for the children and their families such as workshops to help develop social, vocational, and life skills, and therapy sessions that can help to develop their speech and behavior.
