The Kappa Leadership Development League uses many different encouragements, such as attire, grades, community service, and spiritual ideals to help prepare the young men for adulthood. The Kappa League focuses on five phases: self-identity, training, competition, social and health education.
"I recognize the need that kids have to identify themselves with something and have something to look forward to," said Jeremiah Morman, Kappa League adviser and program director. "We hope that when these young men go to college that they stand out from other young men."
Kappa League members focus their community-service efforts toward senior citizens of the community and on becoming role models to elementary school students and their peers.
"I would encourage people to help out other children, because that is what our goal is. It is important for these young men to identify themselves with something positive," Morman said.
The Kappa League program generally meets twice a week with special events planned throughout the month, and also takes a monthly group trip to church services to fulfill their responsibilities.
Any young man in grades seven through 12 who is interested in joining the Kappa League can send a letter to P.O. Box 1167, Gulfport, MS 39502. Be sure to include your name and contact information.
