Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has dedicated this week to acts of philanthropy, community service and entertainment.

Brandon Dobson, a senior medical technology major and president of Phi Beta Sigma, said the fraternity has been holding an entire week's worth of events for the past three or four years.

"[It's] to get freshman frat students psyched about the year," said Dobson.

There have been various events going on throughout the week across campus. Melissa
Carpenter, secretary for student activities, said the fraternity assisted with the blood drive on Tuesday, hosted a wellness fair, a hop contest and a rally for the Jena 6."   more »

View Article  Fort Valley AKA's and Black Youth Vote encourage voter registration

A group of young women at Fort Valley State University is encouraging their school to get out and vote. Today the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority teamed up with The Black Youth Vote Coalition to encourage voter registration.

The sorority provided registration forms, along with food and prizes as a bonus incentive to sign up. Their goal is to make it easier for their peers to get involved with the upcoming elections.

One Sorority representative, Ladonna Anthony, says it's important for young people to get involved with elections. "We are what make up the future and that's why it's very very important that they come out and vote," Anthony says about her fellow students.   more »
