Black Greek Network :: Alpha Phi Alpha Activist addresses leadership void

There is a leadership void in the African-American community, said Jeffrey "Cousin Jeff" Johnson, a hip-hop and civil rights activist, when he spoke to a group of 70 people at the K-State Student Union Little Theatre Monday night.

Johnson's speech was a part of Alpha Week, an annual celebration for Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Abdul Yahaya, senior in civil engineering and president of Alpha Phi Alpha, said he hoped the presentation would help make people politically active and aware for the upcoming presidential elections in the fall.

"Alpha Phi Alpha will have a campaign this fall to get more people registered to vote," he said. "This should help it kick off." more >>

Dear Greek Lettered Organizations:

On behalf of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the Baltimore Metropolitan Zeta-Sigma Alumni Chapter, we would like to invite you to participate in our 93rd Eastern Regional Conference Step Show and after party. The metropolitan Graduate Chapter is working in cooperation with our two Undergraduate chapters including Coppin State University and Morgan State University to provide an outstanding event for the evening. The show will take place on Friday, April 4, 2008, in the elegant settings of the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel. The event will begin promptly at 9:00pm and the show is scheduled to end at 11:30pm. Immediately following the show, we have prepared a spacious venue in the main ballroom for all of the participants and invited guest. The after party will continue until 1:30am. The winning fraternity and sorority will each receive $1,200.00. The second place teams will receive $500.00 and the third place teams will receive a $200.00 prize.

It is recommended that you respond as soon as possible because it is anticipated that a number of teams will wish to compete as we intend to solicit entries from all of the Greek Lettered Organization in the local area In order to compete in the show, your step team must complete and return the registration form. The registration form must be postmarked by March 20th, 2008. Please send materials to:

The first 4 fraternities and 4 sororities to return a complete package will compete in the step show. Attached, you will find a detailed list of judging criteria and guidelines for this year’s step show.
