 In a few days, parents throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region will get a shopping list from their children's schools.

For some families, that list is an unwelcome burden on their already strapped finances.

But there's help.

Hundreds of needy students in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky will receive free backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other school supplies from charitable groups over the next few weeks.  more >>

View Article  Delta Soror Endows $30,000 Scholarship

Mrs. Rose Shockley Wiseman, class of 1937 graduate, recently began a $30,000 endowment fund to support scholarships for elementary and secondary education majors.

The J. Alexander & Rose Shockley Wiseman Scholarship Fund is named for Mrs. Wiseman and her husband, the late Dr. Joseph Alexander Wiseman, who was the first director and founder of the Bowie State University Graduate School.

The newly established fund will strengthen the university's endowment and ensure long-term stability for scholarships in the teaching profession. The Private Donation Incentive Program of the State of Maryland will match the funds placed into the scholarship at a rate of 2:1, which will accelerate the fund's value to $90,000.   more >>

View Article  AKA Soror passes Louisiana state board certification exam

Danielle Magee recently passed the Louisiana state board certification exam, which provides credentials to practice prevention counseling as a Board Certified Prevention Specialist.

Magee, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Stallings, Jr. and the late Craft Robinson, Jr. and the god-daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Myers, received a Master of Education and Human Services in 2002 from Drury University while residing in Springfield, Missouri.

Magee is currently employed as a Social Service Counselor/Prevention Educator with Adapt, Inc/Washington Parish Rape Crisis Center in Bogalusa and a Juvenile Counselor at Northshore Options in Mandeville.

She sits on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
