NFL star Terrence Metcalf, a Clarksdale native, spoke to the kids of the Aaron E. Henry Head Start Center Tuesday. Metcalf was the featured speaker of the summer enrichment program entitled Staying on Track.

Metcalf told the boys and girls gathered at the Aaron E. Henry Head Start Center Tuesday that they could follow a similar path to success.

"I attended Clarksdale High School and was cut from the football team when I tried out," he said. "It took a guy named Aaron Holden who believed in me to help me be disciplined and make the team."

Metcalf told the children that without the help of Holden and his dedication in the classroom, he could never have made it.  more >>

View Article  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority honors musician

Former Texarkana resident Deborah L. Nious was recently awarded the Arts and Letters Award by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for her contributions to the field of music.

Her musical background encompasses more than 20 years of experience beginning with her formal music education started at the age of 10. She also participated in band from the middle school level throughout college.

At age 15, she directed the Lonoke Baptist Church mass choir and served as director of the gospel choir in college and the gospel ensemble in graduate school.   more >>
