The Madison County alumnae chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently announced the 2005 recipients of its Annual Education Grant.

This year's awards went to Mercedes Washington, a 2005 graduate of Madison High School, and Tamara Green and Tamara McCaskill, 2005 graduates of Edwardsville Senior High School.   more >>

Samuel Adegoke, a University of Minnesota senior from Shoreview, has been named a recipient of the 2005 University of Minnesota Josie Johnson Human Rights and Social Justice Award.

The award recognizes individuals who have devoted their time and talents to making substantial and enduring contributions to the University of Minnesota community. It is named after Johnson, a community leader and the first African American to serve on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.   more >>

View Article  Carolyn Bland (DST Member) appointed to state's aging panel

Carolyn Bland has been quietly - and sometimes not so quietly - championing the causes of seniors in Craven County for many years, most recently as Craven County's delegate to and secretary of the North Carolina Tar Heel Legislature.

Her energies have not gone unnoticed statewide, and in May she was appointed to the North Carolina Governor's Advisory Council on Aging and nominated for delegate-at-large to the October 2005 White House Conference on Aging.   more >>
