  The Greenville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrated its 40th anniversary recently.

The commemoration at the Hilton Greenville featured a silent auction and banquet. Shirley Carraway, superintendent of the Orange County Schools and a member of the host chapter, was the keynote speaker. Carroll Dashiell, director of jazz studies at East Carolina University, provided music.   more >>

Don your helmets as the 25th annual Black Bike Week gang hits the highway and moves full speed ahead to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29, 2005.

Black Bike Week is an annual gathering of sports bikers throughout the United States, largely from the eastern sea board, including New York, New Jersey, Washington, DC and Virginia; to the southeastern states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and beyond; who have grown in number to approximately 400,000 participants and attendees since its inception.

The bikers, primarily African-Americans who range in age from 21-45, ride bikes made by Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda’s, and Harley’s, participate in a myriad of cultural activities throughout this week.  more >>

View Article  Segregation Remains at Ferguson Student Center - Are Greeks to Blame?
A little more than 40 years ago, former Alabama Gov. George Wallace proclaimed Alabama would remain a segregated state for eternity. While time has proven Wallace wrong, the University is still a segregated place -- at least at lunch.

Every day around noon, the University's Ferguson Student Center becomes segregated. A large percentage of black students who choose to eat in the Ferg tend to congregate near the theater, while their white counterparts mingle outside Starbucks.   more >>
