View Article  New members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, former Black Fraternal Council restructures executive board positions

Members of the University's division of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, formerly known as the Black Fraternal Council, revised its executive board structure yesterday when the outgoing and recently elected officers met.

Instead of having two co-chairs and a vice chair, the University's NPHC now has one president and two vice presidents. The revision was part of the transition of the Council from the BFC to the NPHC.  more >>

Kappa Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity’s annual “Kappa Week” dominated the week of April 4 to 9. Kappa Week consisted of seminars and community service efforts.

On Monday, the festivities began with a business seminar. The seminar addressed issues such as business etiquette, proper attire and how to prepare for an interview. The following day, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was one of the many vendors that participated in the Fit Fair 2005 marketplace hosted by the Georgia State Recreation Center.  more >>

View Article  Two arrested after AKA pool party

Two males were arrested last Thursday after causing a disturbance at the Elam Center after the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority pool party.

When police arrived on the scene at 11:05 p.m., they found a group of males yelling and threatening a fight with another group.

After officers told the group to disperse, Adam Savage, 23, continued to yell and attempted to start a confrontation.  more >>

View Article  Accident takes lives of Kappa Alpha Psi alumni

Three University of Illinois graduates were killed early Sunday morning after their car flipped over the median on Interstate 57, slamming into an incoming van.

Charisse R. Hartzol, 22, of Hazelcrest, Ill., Ramadan K. El-Amin, 23, of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Michael Edwards, 25, of Chicago were driving north to the Chicagoland area following a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity party held on campus Saturday to celebrate the new pledge class of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The driver of the southbound van - Edward T. Gaines, 62, of Monee, Ill. - was also killed, while the two passengers in the van were injured and sent to a nearby hospital. Two people in a third vehicle, which ran into a ditch on the west side of the interstate after trying to evade the accident, were not hurt.  more >>

View Article  Alpha Phi Alpha safety exhibit timed to promote safe prom

One local fraternity chapter is concerned that the youth who are the nation's future live to see it. 

With so many teens killed and involved in automobile accidents every year, especially around prom season, the Mu Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. decided that they needed to find a way to promote safe driving. The fraternity, in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, will be at Brookhaven High School on Wednesday to sponsor a safety exhibit.  more >>
