View Article  Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brother Anthony Hylick Becomes Gates-Cambridge Scholar

Anthony Hylick doesn't want much out of life, only to help develop what could be the biggest revolution in computing since the Internet.

Now, he'll have his chance. As Georgia Tech's latest recipient of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, he'll begin pursuing his doctorate at the University of Cambridge this fall in the Sentient Computing research group.

A computer engineering major from Warner Robbins, Ga., Hylick said he wants to make computers easier to use for people who aren't computer experts. He doesn't mean just a little easier. He's thinking big - Dennis Hayes kind of big. Much like that Tech alumnus did with the computer modem in the late 1970s, Hylick wants to revolutionize the way computers communicate with each other and with users.   more >>

View Article  Greeks faced with more vandalism

All nine black Greek letter fraternities and sororities at Southern University have trees or areas decorated with their paraphernalia. During the past two years, five Greek organizations have had their area vandalized and several experienced it more than once.

Areas decorated by Alpha Kappa Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta have all been sabotaged.

"It is happening too frequently," said president of the SU Pan-Hellenic Council Mary K. Sims. "They are not getting caught so they just keep doing it."

On Wednesday, the Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta area behind Augusts C. Blanks Hall was found defaced with green spray paint. Paint was found on their tree, trashcan, all four benches and the cement between their trees.   more >>

Arms flailed and feet scurried in unison as African-American Greek organizations tried to top each other in Greek spirit, African American passion and, most of all, high intensity dancing.

"We're all tired but we're running on adrenaline," said Apera Nwora, a 21-year-old junior and member of Zeta Phi Beta on the Washington State University campus.

Zeta Phi Beta is one of eight African-American Greek organizations on the campus. All were involved in Saturday's Step Off contest, which pitted teams of energetic dancers against one another.   more >>
