The Huntsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority recently honored 280 high school students during its 26th annual Honors Convocation.

Since 1980, the chapter has recognized students in grades 9-12 who have earned A's and B's. The program honors students who have attained above-average goals, including Delta Scholars, students the sorority has honored all four years of high school.

This year's Delta Scholars were: Thomas Duerell Henry, Laura R. Hyter, Gabrielle Maudena Kelly, Christa Ivana Montgomery and Ambre S. Twitty, all of Johnson High School; Jessica Leshawn Stewart, Lee High School; Ashely Byrd, New Century Technology High School; Ryan Devon Lang and Sarah Ruth Morris, Oakwood Academy; and Alyssa Dominique Scruggs, Sparkman High School. The four with the highest grade point average, Ashely Byrd, Ryan Lang, Sarah Morris and Alyssa Scruggs, received book stipends of $200 each from the Diverse Educational Life Training Activities, a private foundation known as Delta Inc.

All the students in Huntsville area schools who make A's and B's in the fall semester are invited to apply for the program, said Tryshanda Moton, chairwoman of the Honors Convocation committee.
