Age has its distinct advantages.

There's the respect, for one -- and Hattie Morris has earned plenty of that. There's the sage advice -- she has that, too, and she doesn't bother to sugarcoat the truth.

Now, if she could only find a boyfriend.

But Morris, who turned 104 on Thursday, is having a little trouble there. She's particular, although she acknowledges she'd have to find a younger man.   more >>

View Article  Kappa Week to 'take over campus' at UGA

University students will get to see what diversity looks like this week -- albeit only for a few days.

More than 1,500 members of Kappa Alpha Psi, a national black fraternity with a chapter on campus, will come to the University for the 54th Southeastern Province Council Meeting, which begins Thursday and ends Sunday.

There are little more than 1,000 black undergraduates currently enrolled at the University.

The fraternity members and guests from Georgia and South Carolina will come to campus to talk about issues in their chapters and strengthen chapter "cohesiveness," Chapter President Kevin Wilson said.

"We're going to take over the campus," said Nicholas Bedford, keeper of the records for the chapter.   more >>

View Article  Scholarship to memorialize student

Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority are collaborating with the University of Mississippi Foundation to create a scholarship in memory of their sorority sister and friend, Candice Walker.

On Nov. 21, Walker, 21, a senior communicative disorders major from West Point, died after being involved in a car accident near Grenada when she was returning from the Ole Miss-LSU football game in Baton Rouge.

Candice transferred to Ole Miss in 2003 from Itawamba Community College where she was an Indianette Dancer. She served as an orientation leader at Ole Miss and also volunteered as a big sister with the Boys and Girls Club of Oxford.   more >>
