Olamide Alabi clenched her buzzer tightly in anticipation of the next question.

Supporters cheered as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln senior psychology major and her fellow KeKumba teammates correctly answered question after question about black history at Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’squiz bowl Friday evening.

The quiz bowl was held at the Culture Center, had six participating teams and was one of the events Omega Psi Phi organized in celebration of Black History Month.  more >>

View Article  Negro League - Alpha Phi Alpha member is a significant contributor

As onlookers absorbed the artifacts and stories that defined the Negro Leagues of the 1930s and 1940s, standing among the museum visitors was the great-grandson of Josh Gibson, the Negro League's most famous player.

Sean Gibson is vice president of the Josh Gibson Foundation and significantly contributed to the Negro League shrine on the second floor of the museum.   more >>

View Article  AGA Hires Dorothy Jackson - Alpha Kappa Alpha Lifetime Member

The American Gaming Association (AGA) announced today that it has appointed Dorothy R. Jackson, an accomplished professional with more than 15 years of political, legislative, organizational management, legal and fund-raising experience, as vice president of government affairs.

Jackson has held various leadership positions, including president of the Brooklyn branch of the New York Urban League and founding president of the Council of African-American Administrative Assistants and Associates in the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, she is a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the NAACP, a board member of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, and a member of the African American Leadership Council and Women's Leadership Forum at the Democratic National Committee.  more >>

View Article  Delta Sigma Theta sponsors night to remember and honors black pioneers

Delta Sigma Theta sorority is sponsoring a night to remember and honor African American pioneers Monday at 7 p.m. at the Paris Yates Chapel. The time and place have been changed in order to accommodate a choir. Each participating fraternity or sorority will be giving brief historical presentations on many influential civil rights leaders and their leadership. 

Other greek organizations participating are Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Phi Pi, Theta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Beta Sigma.  more >>
