Principal Tammie Sexton doesn't take her days for granted anymore. After all, she survived a type of brain hemorrhage that strikes one in 10,000 people and kills a third of patients before they reach the hospital. 

EDUCATION: Master's degree in educational administration, N.C. Central University, 1996; bachelor's degree in elementary education, UNC-Chapel Hill, 1990.

CAREER: Principal of new eastern Wake elementary school, March 2005; Holly Springs Elementary School principal, 1999 to March 2005; Swift Creek Elementary School assistant principal, 1996 to 1999; Rand Road Elementary School teacher, 1990 to 1996.

EDUCATIONAL HONORS: Rand Road Elementary Teacher of Year, 1991.

CIVIC INVOLVEMENT: Member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, attends Baptist Grove Church in North Raleigh.
