Excitement filled the halls of Bolton-Edwards Middle School Sunday, as a ribbon-cutting announced the beginning of a new enrichment program. 

20 middle school girls are the newest members of Delta Academy, a weekend program sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

Alumni members from Clinton began the chapter of Delta Academy, which teaches leadership skills to young girls.

Hinds County education officials attending the event say programs like Delta Academy will help young women succeed.   more >>

View Article  Phi Beta Sigma Poetry Night

Visitors to the Cellar restaurant in the Student Union Memorial Center were in for a surprise Friday when the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity held their semi-annual poetry and open mic night.

The night started off slowly but gathered steam as students and members of the Tucson community spoke and read on issues such as love, racism, friendship, spirituality, the war in Iraq and hip-hop culture.

The poetry night is a 10-year-old tradition of the Alpha Alpha Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, and is a place where anyone is free to speak their mind, said Skyler Miles, a music junior and a member of Phi Beta Sigma.  more >>
