"I see kids who don't understand things like saying 'thank you' and 'yes sir,'" Moncrief said. "We want to be able to teach independent living skills, so that they will be able to succeed outside of their parents' house."

Moncrief's mother, Paulette Moncrief, is chairwoman of the Education Program Committee for the Beta Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and she saw this as an opportunity for the service organization.

"Because there are 15 (sorority members) at Lanier, we chose this school to be our first site," said the retired teacher and education manager for the Montgomery County Head Start Program.  more >>

View Article  New York Alumni Foundation Holds Charity Basketball Event

The New York Alumni Fraternity, Incorporated, the nonprofit philanthropic arm of the New York Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated is announcing it will hold its Kappa Klassic Charity Basketball Game on April 9th, 2005 at the Riverbank State Park Gymnaisum.

The Kappa Klassic Charity Basketball game will feature the WBLS-FM Basketball Team, “The Sure Shots” versus the Black Greek Letter Organization Fraternity “ALL-STARS.” The Sure Shots, which have donated their time and skills to assist hundreds of nonprofits in their fundraising efforts will play against a team made up of athletes from the major BGLO Fraternities: Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma.   more >>
