According to a Detroit News Special Report, colleges’ retention of blacks is dismal. With greater student competition and such vigorous opposition to quota systems based on race, how can black students position themselves for greater college success? One way could be to align themselves with like-minded peers by joining a fraternity or sorority such as Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Zeta Phi Beta, Phi Beta Sigma, Iota Phi Theta, Alpha Phi Alpha or Sigma Gamma Rho. more >>

Richard Word got one of his first lessons in the power of community from a Boys and Girls Club.
For that reason, Vacaville's new police chief wanted to reach out Saturday night to youngsters from Vallejo's only such club, letting them know that the loving attention they receive from elders now will set them on the right path. During the banquet, Valero Refinery presented the club with a $30,000 check, marking one of the first and largest donations to the rebuilding campaign. Representatives from the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, whose name the club carries, gave the club $15,000. more >> |
