Sigma Gamma RhoAn individual with a diverse background in higher education, community agencies and private enterprise will lead student event planning at Morehead State University.               

Terri L. Roberts has been named student activities coordinator at the University. In her new position, the Dayton, Ohio, native will have numerous responsibilities, including advising the Student Government Association and the Student Activities Council. Additionally, she will assist in the planning of Homecoming, Family Weekend and other campus events.

“One of my goals is to make sure that the programming that we do on campus is student-driven and is what the students really want,” she said. “I want our campus programming and events to be a reflection of the diversity that we have on our campus.”

Roberts says she wants to develop her SAC/SGA executives as leaders.

“For me, it’s really just an effort to try and prepare the students I work with for life after college, using those transferable skills and giving them something constructive to do.”

Roberts most recently was employed at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she worked in its residence life department. Other professional experience includes working at the Alcoholism Council of Cincinnati. She is the co-owner of an event planning, management and consulting company, J & T Events, LLC, whose past clients include the Anthony Munoz Foundation and Marvin Lewis Community Fund.

As a student, she interned with the Cincinnati Reds.     

Roberts is a 2002 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication, with a minor in African-American studies, and where she assisted with residence life administration. She holds a master’s degree in sport administration from Xavier University.              

She says she was drawn to MSU for various reasons.

“I liked the size of the campus, other schools were much bigger, with over 20,000 students. Also, I really was just struck by the kindness of the people here; they’re down to earth, and I’ve enjoyed being able to interact with people at a level I’ve never experienced.”

A presenter at various conferences and training sessions in higher education, Roberts was a finalist for the 2005 Applause magazine Reach for the Stars Award, which recognizes the achievements of African-Americans under the age of 30 in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region. She is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Iota Nu Sigma Worthington Alumnae chapter.

As student activities coordinator, Roberts wants MSU students to feel comfortable to come to her and get involved all year.

“I know there’s a big push at the beginning of the year, but I always want them to come to see me,” she said. “I like to be very accessible.”
