Students with dreams of displaying their vocal or musical stylings for an audience may soon get their chance.
A WKU Idol competition is being planned to offer a venue for such talent. The event is being sponsored by the Western chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
The contest will be held on March 29 if NPHC can get enough interest.
Bowling Green junior Shante Hatchett, a member of NPHC, said they thought the show would be a good way to have fun and showcase talents.
"We thought this was a good way to get everybody together," she said.
Henderson senior Jamie Jackson, a member of NPHC, said they got the plan from something one of their advisers, Shawnboda Johnson, did at the university she attended.
"We thought it would be a good idea," Jackson said. She is also on the planning committee for the event.
"We are going to have it set up like the 'American Idol' TV show," Jackson said.
The contest will consist of three rounds, Hatchett said at an interest meeting for the contest last night.
The first round will consist of contestants singing part of a song and being judged by crowd response. During the second round, singers will face three judges, possibly consisting of one person from the music department. The third round will also be judged by crowd response.
Participants can sing or play an instrument, Hatchett said. The winner will be awarded a cash prize.
The contest is free to anyone who wants to participate. Admission for the audience is $3, or $2 with a canned good, which will be donated to charity.
Anyone interested in participating can e-mail their contact information, including a phone number at which to reach them over spring break, to shante.hatchett@wku.edu.
